On the 17th of Tammuz (or on the 18th in this year), Jews begin their Three Weeks of mourning over the destruction of the first two Holy Temples with the prayer (Is. 62:7) “Permit G-d no silence until He sets and establishes Jerusalem as the praise of the earth. For with You is the source of life; in Your light we will see light. Our G-d, we are contrite over our actions, we are shamed because of our wrongdoing.”

A Rosh Hashanah Meditation

Once, after Rosh Hashanah prayers, the Alter Rebbe asked his son, the Mitteler Rebbe, “With what meditation did you pray this Rosh Hoshanah?” He replied, “With the verse, ‘All mankind shall prostrate themselves before You’.” Then the Mitteler Rebbe asked his father, “With what meditation did you pray?” The Alter Rebbe responded, “I prayed with my lectern.”
