Preparations for the Torah at Sinai Began with the Women

It’s not surprising that the preparation for receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai started with the women and girls. (See Rashi on Exodus 19:3.) This is consistent with the following fact of human nature. The woman of the house sets the main tone of the household. This is why she is “The Foundation of the Home” – the mainstay of the home – as we learn in the Torah tradition.

The Jewish festival of Shavuot marks the revelation at Mount Sinai on the 6th of the Hebrew month of Sivan.
