How the High Priest was honored before and after Yom Kippur

The High Priest received great honor before and after Yom Kippur. On that one day each year, during the Yom Kippur service, the High Priest entered the “Holy of Holies”. It was innermost room of the Holy Temple. The Holy of Holies housed the Ark of Covenant, which contained the Tablets of the Ten Commandments.
