Rambam’s life, and why he wrote the Mishneh Torah

“Rambam” is the acronym name for Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (Rabbi Moses Maimonides). He was born on the Eve of Passover, 14 Nissan, 4895 (11’35 C.E.). He passed away in Egypt on the 20th of Tevet, which usually falls in January. The year of 20’23 C.E. is the 888th year since the birth of Rambam.

In this lesson, Rabbi Yosef Eisen explains that Rambam is one of the important figures in the history of Torah scholarship. He reads from his book Miraculous Journey.

In this short audio lesson, Rabbi Nachman Simon speaks about the first Torah law that Rambam wrote in Mishneh Torah. Rambam called it the foundation of all foundations, and the pillar of wisdom.
