From YUTorah.org – The Mysterious Yeshiva of Shem and Eber

After the great Flood, Noah’s son Shem, and Shem’s great-grandson Eber (Ever in Hebrew) were engaged in teaching Torah. However, there is very little written about the details of their teaching. The Written Torah does not reveal where they were located, or how their teaching was conducted.

The following is an excellent Torah lecture on this subject, by Rabbi Ya’akov Trump: “The Mysterious Yeshiva of Shem V’Ever”.  This material originally appeared on www.YUTorah.org. (Length = 47:26.)

In a subsequent edition of this page, we will cite specific details that are found in explanations by Rashi of several verses in the Book of Genesis. Based on this, we clarify some common assumptions, and we propose some alternative ideas about what Jacob learned from the two righteous prophets Shem and Eber, and what type of teachings he passed on specifically to his son Joseph.

The following chart shows dates of birth and the length of the lifetimes of the fathers in Shem’s paternal lineage. The lives of Methuselah and Lamech overlapped the lives of Adam and Seth.
