Understanding the Torah of Moses and the Divine Commandments
Dr. Michael Schulman recorded this talk on August 22, 20’25. He provided it for an on-line meeting of leaders of indigenous communities of the Americas, as well as several other religious organizations.
Before G-d spoke the Ten Commandments on the 6th of Sivan at Mt. Sinai, He made a covenant with the Israelites on the 4th of Sivan, on the 7 Noahide Commandments and the ones He gave them during their encampment at Mara. This prompts the question, how was this done?
In the Torah it states (Exodus 24:4,7): “And Moses wrote all the words of the L‑rd… He took the Book of the Covenant and read it in earshot of the people, and they said, ‘Everything that G-d has said, we will do and we will obey.” What became of the Book of the Covenant? Where was its content written into the Torah scroll?
